The biggest lie in social media marketing is that you need to post 24/7 to see results. You don’t. At Xemex, we’ve watched small businesses burn themselves out chasing engagement, posting three times a day, and still seeing zero traffic to their website. The problem isn’t volume—it’s strategy. You don’t need more posts. You need smarter posts.
Here are five social media tips that actually move the needle. No fluff. No “just be authentic” platitudes. Just tactics that drive real traffic.
TIP 1: OPTIMIZE YOUR BIO LIKE IT’S A LANDING PAGE (BECAUSE IT IS)
Your bio is the first thing people see when they land on your profile. Most businesses waste it with generic descriptions like “Providing quality service since 2015” or “Follow us for updates.”
That tells me nothing. It doesn’t give me a reason to follow, click, or care.
Here’s what your bio should do:

- Clearly state what you do and who it’s for — “Helping Denver small businesses dominate through video marketing”
- Include a clear call to action — “Free audit below 👇”
- Use your link strategically — Don’t link to your homepage. Link to your highest-value offer: a booking page, a free resource, a Linktree with multiple destinations.
Example before:
“Local coffee shop ☕ Denver, CO 📍 Follow for daily specials!”
Example after:
“Specialty coffee + handmade pastries in LoHi 📍 Order ahead & skip the line 👇”
The second one is specific, actionable, and tells me exactly what I’m getting.
Pro tip: Update your link based on campaigns. Running a Valentine’s Day promo? Swap the link. Launching a new product? Feature it.
TIP 2: POST LESS, BUT MAKE EVERY POST COUNT
Stop posting just to post. The algorithm doesn’t reward quantity—it rewards engagement. One high-performing post per week will outperform seven mediocre posts every time.
What makes a post “high-performing”?
- It hooks in the first 3 seconds — Use strong text overlays, compelling visuals, or a provocative question
- It delivers value — Teach something, solve a problem, or entertain authentically
- It includes a call to action — “Save this for later,” “Tag someone who needs this,” “Comment your answer below”
The test: Before you hit post, ask yourself: Would I stop scrolling for this? If the answer is no, don’t post it.
Batch your content so you’re not scrambling daily. Dedicate one day to creating 4-6 posts, then schedule them throughout the week. Use tools like Later, Buffer, or Meta Business Suite to automate posting.

TIP 3: USE CAROUSEL POSTS TO BOOST SAVES AND SHARES
Carousel posts (multi-image posts you swipe through) are engagement goldmines. Why? Because they generate saves—and saves are one of the highest-ranking signals for Instagram’s algorithm.
People save posts they want to reference later: tutorials, tips, lists, infographics, step-by-step guides. When someone saves your post, Instagram shows it to more people because it signals value.
How to create scroll-stopping carousels:
- Start with a strong hook on slide 1 — “5 mistakes killing your engagement” or “The color theory hack no one talks about”
- Deliver value on slides 2-9 — One tip per slide, clean visuals, easy to read
- End with a CTA on slide 10 — “Save this for later,” “Follow for more,” “Share with a friend”
Design tips:
Use consistent fonts and colors across all slides. Keep text minimal—3-5 words per slide max. Use high-contrast colors so text pops on mobile.

TIP 4: ENGAGE LIKE A HUMAN, NOT A ROBOT
Most businesses treat social media like a megaphone: post, log off, repeat. That’s not social media—that’s broadcasting. And broadcasting doesn’t build relationships.
If you want traffic, you need to engage actively.
Here’s the daily routine that works:
- Spend 15 minutes in the morning responding to comments on your posts — Real responses, not just “Thanks!” or emojis. Start conversations.
- Spend 15 minutes engaging with your target audience — Go to posts from local businesses, potential customers, or industry leaders. Leave thoughtful comments. Not “Great post!”—actually add value.
- Reply to every DM within 24 hours — Speed matters. People move on if you don’t respond fast.
Why this works: The algorithm prioritizes accounts that actively engage. Plus, when you comment on other people’s posts, their followers see your name. That’s free exposure.
Bonus: Instagram’s algorithm rewards accounts that generate conversations in comments. The more back-and-forth replies, the more Instagram pushes your post to new audiences.
TIP 5: REPURPOSE YOUR BEST CONTENT ACROSS PLATFORMS
You’re already creating content. Stop letting it die after one post.
Here’s how to stretch one piece of content across multiple platforms:
Start with a :57SecondPULSE video (or any short-form video):
- Post it as an Instagram Reel
- Post it as a TikTok
- Post it as a YouTube Short
- Embed it on your website homepage
- Share it in Instagram Stories with a swipe-up link
- Pull a quote from the video and turn it into a carousel post
- Transcribe the video and turn it into a blog post or LinkedIn article
One video = 7+ pieces of content.
This isn’t lazy—it’s strategic. Your audience isn’t seeing everything you post. Repurposing ensures your message reaches people across different platforms and formats.
Pro tip: Each platform has slightly different audiences and behaviors. Tailor your captions and CTAs for each one. What works on LinkedIn (professional, longer captions) won’t work on TikTok (casual, punchy).
